Getting a new cell phone these days often comes with a commitment of at least two-year cell phone contracts with the cell phone company. That is a long time to be tied to one if you aren?t happy with the service. While you do have the option of canceling, the fees for doing so are often several hundred dollars. Cell phone contracts can be hard to follow and make you feel trapped.
Another concern is the different charges that you incur during cell phone contracts. Even though they always make it sound like an excellent deal the little additional charges for things like directory assistance, using too many minutes, and internet access really start to add up. This makes it hard to budget for your cell phone bill each month.
A great alternative is to consider a pay as you go cell phone. With this type of option you purchase the cell phone and a set amount of minutes?and there are no cell phone contracts. Once you use those minutes you can add more to the phone. This is an excellent option for those who have bad credit or who can?t get cell phone contracts without a hefty deposit. This is also a good option for individuals who live on a tight budget and need to know exactly what their cell phone usage is going to cost them before they commit to it.
Teenagers who want their own cell phone also are able to buy pay as you go phones with their own money, if they choose to do so. This is because they can be purchased at a retailer for cash so not having a credit card isn?t an obstacle?sometimes without cell phone contracts. With cell phone contracts, the phones aren?t cheap so you have that expense when you sign up for the contact. You also have to pay if you damage or lose the phone which is a scenario that frequently happens. They aren?t very expensive though so if you do happen to lose it you won?t have to come up with a large sum of money to replace it.
